Yeah, my 33 year old son is "hoping" for my car too! He's worthy enough alright, but I've still got plenty of life in me yet! He may have to wait awhile! B)

Yeah i had almost the opposite problem back in 1982 when i bought my 67 gt500 at the tender age of 18....One of the guys at my dads work had the hots for shelbys so my dad kept bugging me to let him take it to work so the guy could see it....i finally relented....watching pops drive down the street in my blk./gold lemans striped beauty(and shifting way too early)was one of the most nervous times of my life!!!!!!!!!!god was i relieved when he got it home safe and sound at the end of the day!!!Trent

6s524, im not waiting for him to kick the bucket yet, with my luck he will way out live me anyway lol. My father bought the car back in the mid 80's and i don't think its ever ran in my life time. Its been sitting in the garage for most of the time. Everything is original and complete but is in barn find type shape. No rust, paints alittle worn. Think i can remember the exhaust needing to be replace along with break work. Im trying to get him excited about it again but he is on this early bronco kick, which is cool too.
557, that is funny, the complete opposite! i don't think i could ever imagen having that sort of power over my dad. My first car was a 69 volvo 144s, and now days its a 66 bronco so the only thing i get nervious about is whether i will make it from a to b.

Im not sure if it is, and i can't get to the vin num. The car is in a very tight garage, so maybe that will be a first step. Maybe someone can explain the registry to me, how to do it, what it means when im registered. I believe it was registered at one point so does that mean its still registered?

As far as the registry is concerned it is a book published by the shelby american automobile club (SAAC) that tries to document ownership history for every car ever produced by shelby american or shelby automotive. There is a new edition for the shelby mustangs coming out soon so if you want to document your car you need to contact the 69/70 shelby registrar(info at SAAC.com )They can also help you authenticate your car(to prove it is not a fake or a replica)To do this you need to submit both the shelby vin and ford vin to them to see if they correspond...I am not sure but if a 70 is like a 67 the ford vin is under the shelby vin plate on the drivers side of the engine compartment(it is accessed by removing one of the rivets/drilling it out/ and rotating the vin plate)Really if you are serious you should join SAAC they have a wealth of informational resources about these cars....Dues,i believe are about 50 bucks a year...Good luck!!!!Trent

NJ350, be sure to take a picture of it crammed in that garage first before pulling it out. Nothing like seeing an old Shelby covered in dirt with some junk on top of it. Tell your dad it's bad to let a car sit and degrade without starting and driving it once in awhile, and you'd like to help him get it in shape. Probably if you showed him you had an interest, he'd let you toy with it. Be sure to get those brakes working. I think once you get the Shelby VIN, you can post a message here asking what info is in the registry, and someone may respond. Keep us posted on the progress! Ken.

There is no under hood tag on the 70s, you will want to looks for a serial number on the lower lefthand side of the windshield. The VIN number is the key to tracking the car.

As mentioned earlier, the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) tracks the histories of these cars and their reported ownership. It's insurance for you to be registered. The last thing you need is for another car to be using your "Shelby" numbers.

There was recently a thread on the forum about just such a case, its a green GT500. www.saacforum.com

The shelby has been passed down to me. It is now out of the garage and I have started on the brakes. I'll be moving my post to the 65-70 forums.
Coralsnake, i have also e-mailed Vinny at the given e-mail. Thank you.
