    Hello all.

We own a 70 Boss 302 but I have just been given the task of restoring a 68
GT 500 with factoy 4:30 gears . I believe it's a PI car. Hopefully I can lean on this site members for info from time time.

    Lesson 1

The first thing you need to do is document the car and understand what you have.

All 1968 GT500s originally had the 428 Police Interceptor. There were no GT500s built at the factory with 4.30 rear axles.

GT500s would have either a 3.50 or a 3.00 rear axle. The 3.00s were used on AC cars. The 3.50s were used on non-air GT500s.

If you are going by the door tag, the axles codes are not the same as the standard Mustangs.

I might also suggest some light reading: www.thecoralsnake.com
