    im thinking its the same dark blue shelby used in the commercial.

    Hi all,
    Thanks for the response S2MS we anxiously await the next report.This is cool stuff.
    We are very lucky history has been preserved in this case.
    To Jim: I think the car in the commercial is different than the car pictured.There were several possibilities,many have already been listed.An engineering car-company car-pool car-leased car-photo/road test car,and knowing Shelby this one had keys and gas!!

    I'm very interested in the oft proffered description of the employee parking pass as windshield decal. I have never seen one. I do know of several engineering cars, including my own, that have numbered tags on the windshield. The numbers on these tags correlate to numbers assigned to specific engineering vehicles. There were a relatively high number of company owned vehicles, yet the engineering vehicles were assigned, in sequence, rather low numbers.

    Does anyone have a picture of one of these parking-lot-passes?

    Also, has anyone thought to ask the fellow in the photograph what he might remember about the event?

    Hi to all,
    The point raised by Hamilton Cox about Shelby parking passes,and engineering numbers.If memory serves correct....Jeff Speegle has pictures of an original pass from the Shelby convention a few years ago-it was in the lower right corner of the windshield,and was very well preserved,as was the G.T.500 it was seen in.
    While reading the 97 registry I could not count how many cars were for the use of/by Shelby employees.Some were leased,and others were for engineering,and others still were called company cars.Public relations is yet another title given,and it appears car 0050 & 0100 were among the first of these "P.R." cars.We need to know more about the cars used for engineering and what they considered a turnover time--best guestimate would be a few months like 3? :thumbup:

    Hello Patty,

    I can not speak for any of the other engineering cars, but I can tell you that 0100 arrived at Shelby American in early November 1966. It made the move to Ionia in the late summer/early fall of 1967. It remained assigned to the Shelby Automotive engineering department into at least January 1969. The last factory paperwork that I have a copy of is dated 1/24/69 and 0100 is on that engineering cars inventory list. So, 0100 was an engineering car for at least 27 months and quite possibly longer.

    I hope the individual who is in the photo as a young boy can remember a few details about the car in the photo. Specifically what color it was, if it was an auto or manual trans, and if it had the brake/turn signal lights in the upper scoops. The answers to these questions would be very helpful in determining which car is in the photo.

    I copied and pasted the pic and adjusted the saturation and hue. Can't be for sure, but that number in the lower left hand windshield could be 324.
    I've loaned out my registry so I can't even verify if 324 is a big block.
    I'm almost positve the last two digits are 24.

    I'm still trying to get in contact with the guy in the photo, no luck yet. The only thing I know is he is the rear blonde kid on the hood. Will report back when I have more details.

    Eric--nice to know that 0100 is well documented.Most cars seem to have not or simply were not in service for as long.Do you know or have any idea what they were researching?
    Is there anyone else out there with an engineering type pass that we could see a picture of? Maybe we should begin a new thread??
    I am really hopeful that the lead (person from the original photo)can give us more info--how is that for luck and timing!!

    Hello Patty,

    Unfortunately, I do not know what the engineering department did with 0100 during those 27+ months. The 1/24/69 engineering cars inventory list states the engine in 0100 is a 428-4V. So, at some point in time the 390-8V that was in the car for the magazine road tests in late 1966 had been removed.
    It would be awesome if the "engineering papers" for 0100 still exist and could be brought to light.

    Hi again 67 fans,
    Looking up all cars that end in 24--guess what--224 324 424 524 624 are all listed as G.T.500 cars.Dont know what else to look for?Maybe best to check with the Kid from the actual photo session before chasing it any more.

    Aren't all of the cars in the commercial GT350's? To my eyes the stripes all say GT350.........

    The car in the foreground is definitely 350..blurred on the other car!!!

    Hello Patty,

    Based on: the colors of the cars - lime gold and dark moss green, the protruding center mounted headlights, the lack of a grill emblem, the upper scoop lights, and the chrome exhaust cut out trim rings; I would say these cars are some of the earliest '67 GT350s built and would surmise the commercial was filmed in November of 1966.

    Hi to all,
    I think that the lime gold car could possibly be the prototype G.T.350 that did not get a Shelby vin...much like the red G.T.500 That has recently been uncovered.It also looks like the same car used in the photo session which was on the lax parking lot,along with a blue 427 Cobra.If you look close, the dark green car on you tube may be 2 different cars.The first car shown with Mr.Shelby and guest has a more centered emblem on the left fender,much like the photo on page 3 of the Shelby buyers guide.If we had someone with the ability to expand on these a bit,I am positive we will learn more.
    The lime gold car was most likely done well before regular production as it was used in the printed promotional goodies,and I think it features the same blonde gal....it also has the Theme restaurant visible,much like the youtube video.It is still there if you ever visit LAX
    Meantime let us keep digging

    Hello Patty,

    Just another observation here. Doesn't the pre-production lime gold GT350 in the sales brochure have the chrome trim ring around its upper scoop lights? I do not see the chrome trim ring around the upper scoop light on the lime gold GT350 in the commercial. Based on this difference, I do not believe they are the same car. I think both of the GT350s in the LAX part of the commercial are early production cars.

    What do you think?
