Hi there !! I am currently restoring a 67 GT-500 using NOS parts the most i can.But i am facing a problem : Will i install these parts ( nos sway bar,nos brake booster , nos suspension arms , etc ) in there actual condition or will i repaint them before they go on the car ??? As you all know , NOS dosen t mean MINT , there are flaws on these parts from sitting around all those years. What do you think folks ?? install in `as is`or restore ??? isn t a shame to repaint a NOS part ?? and on the other side a part with missing paint and scratches doesnt look good on a car.... Which way would be the best to preserve the value of both the parts themselves and the car ?? Would like to hear from you on this . Thanks .

    Reggie .

If your installing[nos] parts that are not up to the rest of the restoration, then I would want to recondition them also. If you had an original paint, low milage car with normal weathering, I would maybe put the parts on as-is. [JMO]:D

Agree you will need to reburbish/finish the parts or they will distract from the rest of the car. This is one of the reasons to purchase nice original parts (often they are better than the service replacements) rather than spend the money on NOS stuff.

But in some locations I guess it can be difficult to find perfect used items. ;)

IMHO you should not be looking at protecting the value of the part as once they are installed they are not NOS any longer - just used parts
