Not a Shelby but maybe somebody else heard of the LID 429 mid=engined 1969 fastback?

I know now it was in two magazines in the Sixties , maybe one was Motor Trend, pictured side view a Mustang fastback and the story was about a Boss 429 engine put in a Mustang amidships. It was called by Ford the "LID" for Low Investment Drivetrain. I can't figure out what they were trying to do, as that time they were already importing the Pantera with a mid-engined drivetrain so why try to do it on a Mustang? Was this an official project or just the engineers having fun with spare parts on their own time? I heard that the transaxle and maybe engine and transaxle survive but I can't see where they would be worth much without the unibody chassis. Any opinions?
