Hi Everyone, Can I ask for your opinions - Is there a repo 1966 steering wheel made that you would recommend as being a very good repo. The original wheel to my car has been restored and I would call it average to good. I'm thinking of taking it off (keeping it) and putting on a repo. I'm not into the concours scene but want a very good repo in its place. Thanks Rohan
I took my original wheel of it was worn looking and purchased a current repop wheel I hate it !!!!!!! has a cheap feel to it and the horn barsare not aligned the slots very well it vibrates just enough to touch the sides and the noise drives me nuts (MORE NUTS ) I am waiting for the repop real wood wheels that are due out any day so I can give this wheel away !!!!! Dominic
who was the manufacturer, or were did you buy it ? My repro wheel doesn't have those issues. But I did cover it with a leather WheelSkins wrap to help my arthritic hands get a better grip. I'm saving up to have Bill Herndon ( 301-977-0309 ) restore my original wheel. Z. Ray '66 GT-350
Hi There is a guy in switzerland he makes repros better than the original. Let me check for the link. I´ll get back to you Jerry
Oh S..it! Was for a 67 but quit interesting that guy! http://www.gbc-business.ch/mustang/english/projekt effpi/Effpi_1.htm Greetz Jerry
Hi I am the guy from Switzerland. I produced the 67 repro wheel for a while now and the first shipping of the 1966 repro wheels is on it's way to the USA. Of course the first wheels are already reserved and sold, but my slow production is running now. The production is slow because the wheels are handmade (approx. 20 hours per wheel!). I do not cut any corner on quality, so you need some patience with me. The 1966 wheel is different from the 1967. There are no plastic ends at the spokes, the wood and spokes has a different profile, the hub is polished and of course there is a different horn button. The wheel is really beautiful. The model for the repro was an original, almost NOS 1966 shelby wheel. If my wife would know what I paid for this NOS wheel she would kill me. I do not make any direct sales. Distributor for the USA is Dave Mathews, SAAC registrar. Please ask him for all informations you need about the wheel and availablity. mailto:dmathews@prodigy.net I hope you will like my work, best regards Rico
I have a Dynacorn repop and it's OK. Doesn't look exact upon close inspection but is pretty good and also pretty solid. Still, nothing compares to an original IMHO. I had my original restored by Gus Jauregui, a faux painter by profession in CA. He's not one of the mainstream restorers like Bill Herndon but after seeing some of his wheels on ebay I decided to use him and was not dissapointed. Price was cheaper than the quote I got from Herndon too, $320 shipped IIRC.
