Hi Folks, I am trying to help a 1966 427 Cobra owner get his original 2-4V Holley carburetor induction system back in working order (street duty - driver quality). Do you or anybody private parties you know of have any cores/partially complete List 2804 or 2805 Holley carburetors available for purchase for parting out? If so I would want to compare air horn date codes because Holley made revisions all the time. We seek one complete throttle plate assembly for a List 2804 and two 4033 primary metering blocks, plus other small parts. Any condition considered but good used original condition except for patina that does not require refinishing would be much more desirable. Thanks.
Hi just a suggestion....they may not be the cheapest, but when it is something that involves a carburetor I'd contact Jon Enyert of pony carburetors inc. 112 Westgate Street Las Cruces, New Mexico 88005 800.431.1612 www.ponycarburetors.com he is a walking encyclopedia and has parts in stock. Please promise you will not take any chances with fuel leaks...have a fire extinguisher handy, and do it properly!! Mike Ulrey in floida is also really good with holleys-cant find his card but if you want i"ll keep looking..good luck and keep us posted.
Call Mike Ulrey 727-772-5834 Crystal Beach FL He can probably help you. He is a carb. expert and one of the most FE knowledgeable people around. Frank
Thanks for suggesting Ulrey and Pony. I gave the car owner an itemized list with Holley part numbers and descriptions (from both the 1965 and 1979 issues of the Holley master parts books - Holley does supersede and revise designs like most companies) and asked him to touch base with Ulrey, Pony, and the Holley custom shop (that is making current reissues of these List numbers). Because it is an unrestored 1966 427 Cobra we seek parts for and the carburetors we are trying to repair are the ones it left Shelby American Inc. with we are trying to stay technically correct with roughly 1964-66 part designs. Many 1960s Holley parts evolved slightly to a lot in relatively short time spans. 1975 through 1985 I was rebuilding, repairing, and even restoring (replating, rechromating, rephosphating, machining, shaft repairs, hunting missing parts, and even making some parts myself) carburetors for Shelby Mustangs, Boss Mustangs, and Cobras for people all over the world. Based on what Holley told me back them I was the first private party (not somebody like a Fred Jones Ford Authorized Rebuilder) to ask them for replacement parts in bulk. It was a big deal back then to make orders of maybe 20 or more each of every screw, washer, nut, check ball, spring, gasket, valve, fitting, etcetera for two of three different List number models at once. (Just imagine being able to order all the fuel transfer line fittings you wanted for the Shelby List 3259 series (There were actually several different models between 1964 and 1966. R-3259A, R-3259AAS, R-3259-1A, and R-3259-1AAS. Each is a different revision level and each has something different than all the rest. Some changes were minor and some changes affected functionality.) made by the original supplier (Imperial) for a couple of dollars each (a big price back then). One discovery during this parts buying was that Holley, like most companies, changed suppliers and or designs all the time. Sometimes the small parts I would get would be perfect matches to the damaged originals I was replacing and sometimes they would be something that would work but clearly different. I saved the exact matches for Shelby and Boss cars and used the “will work” parts of things like Corvette (ouch) daily drivers Because Holley changed little details constantly we would really like to find some carburetors that are already being used for parts that are design wise in the same time frame as the original assemblies on the car. The situation is not unlike somebody with a 1965 GT350 wanting to find a rebuildable fuel pump of the correct design, model number, and date code for their car instead of a 1970s one model fits all Ford service replacement. Thanks.
Update: Some NOS Holley Master Kits have been obtained as well as a few small parts but we are still seeking quite a few pieces.
