Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, New to the threads. Loved Shelby's all my life but first time owner... Wanted to ask.... I have noticed many owners "white stripping" their convertibles(2005-up). Will that take away the "originality" of the car? What overall mods would be acceptable without reducing the future value? Similar to matching engine numbers to todays classics... plz let me know your thought. Regards
If these cars do become collectible or valuable in some way, in the future and we use the current levels and understanding as a guide then IMHO any changes will effect the value of the car if your looking for top dollar. Any mods would have to be reversible (leaving no mounting marks, extra holes, repainting and such) and the assembly line part reinstalled. If current practices can be used as a guide then things like the assembly line battery, tires, mufflers, first oil filter, air filter and other parts that will wear quickly will be in high demand by those attempting to return their cars to that point Low or no mileage, original everything types of cars will bring the top dollars, as well as low production popular cars (odd ball combinations that are not popular do not count) Of course if they do not become collectible (examples pace car Corvettes, SVOs.............) then those that put the car away unprepped and untouched will watch their hopes of profit disappear as they have on many cars that people thought were going to be collectible
Another thing is some cars need to be sacrificed to bring up the value of others. In the case of vintage Shelbys (or any rare breed) if all original cars were perfectly maintained not modified and 100% original then the value of the exceptional cars would not stand out. Every time an original car is modified one that is not goes up. Having said that, I am with Pete, ask me again in 30 years
In 30 years can we get hov-arounds or rascal scooters in white with blue stripes? (Of course we know what color Pete wants ) Scott
