As you may know the July 7, 1963 SCCA race at Lake Garnett, Garnett, KS was the first decisive victory of the cobras over the corvettes. Our cobra club drove around the original circuit which is a road around a lake in a city park. It was fun driving around imagining what it would have been like to drive this narrow dangerous track at speed. To think Ken Miles ran it averaging 85 mph just boggles the mind. I have a windshied tour around the track and some historical information on my website if anyone is interested at: http://www.chuckbrandt.com/lakegarnett.htm Chuck
Kudos and accolades! That is a fabulous site you put together. I love the windshield tour. The reprints of local newspaper articles is fantastic. That writing style is charming and really puts the reader into the action. I wonder if any visitors of this site were in Kansas back in '63. I would love to hear their first hand accounts. robin
Chuck, Thanks for sharing, that's great. I attended the Historics at Sebring 2 weeks ago, we did a lap with 23 Cobra replicas and 2 SPF Daytona Coupes. Hopefully someone from the Deep South Cobra Club took photos and will post on their web page or Club Cobra. We've got the track rented in May for our Superformance owners group, looking forward to that, it's an amazing track. I have some photos in my gallery of cars in the pits and our SPF's.
