Speaking of paint and repainting! I am thinking about having my car repainted in the next year. It currently has the original paint, which is in average condition. The Highland Green color is starting to loose the shine and it won't take too many more polishes and we will be seeing primer. I am going back with the original color obviously, but any recommendations on brand or type of paint. What kind of price should I look to pay for a top notch job, and other things to watch out for.
if you had the equipment and the space to DIY the primer would cost you 200 the paint woud run approximately 400 for the base and the clearcoat 200 add to that the sandpaper, water, electricity and the about 200 to compound and polish if anyone would do it for less than 1000 labor i would run away if their bottom line was less than 2000 total IMHO this is the base line for a decent paint job I'm assuming they use HVLP guns and good paint good luck
I'm in the same position as you. I too have an original paint 68 with Highland Green. And allthough the paint is not in the best shape, I've been advised to keep it original, as it was put to me, "It's only a virgin once". Shelby's with original paint are held at a premium (price wise too). But afterall it is your car, and you are free do do with it whatever you want. Any other opinions on this? I'd welcome more impute from the group on this subject.
Since the first posting I had a guy that knew what he was doing with a buffer apply a 3M product. "Finnesse" I believe it was called. Didn't take much paint at all off, but the paint on the car looks new. We went back over the paint with a good wax and it look outstanding (too me of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder). Very true about only being one original paint job. Changed my mind and I will stick with this one until it starts looking bad. (of course I could change my mind again)
