i have owned a '68 shelby convertible and a '67 gt-500 since 1970. I put both in my garage and left them for nearly thirty years. i recently decided to pull them out in order to give one to each of my two sons. I am no mechanic so i have a question about a unit under the dash next to the brake pedal. it has a small air tank with a hose running to the back of the unit. it has a plug with wires on the end of it. it also has a small plunger unit that appears to hook to a small wire. the pin is missing which connects them. I would like to know what this unit is and what it does. it is on the '68 convertible gt-350 thanks, blue
I believe you are refering to the pop away motor which is vacuum activated. It connects to a cable that routs through the steering column that when pulled causes the steering wheel to pop away so as to make it easier for the driver to get out of the car.
Hi to Blue, It sounds like you are describeing the actuator for a tilt steering wheel. If the car has this option.More often than not when they acted up or quit, people simply disconnected them.Hope this helps out.If you can post pictures we can help...so many people are helpful here it is a great group. Please make these cars safe prior to driving...brakes must be checked and functional as a high priority,as well as wiring.Let us know and we can walk you through it. Take care and go slow....good luck ! Regards P.D.
