Re: 1969 Shelby gas tank

    <DIV>The plating on the tank was on the sheet metal before the tank was stamped out and assembled together. Since it is not likely you are going to have the tank replated then your obvious choice is to replace your tank with a new one. It is that or repaint it in black. Who is judging the car? If it is not some kind of concours judging what does it matter. You could even go the custom route. Have the bottom of the tank painted the same color as the exterior of the car and then have a custom air brush mural painted on. Then set out a&nbsp;mirror on the ground for people to see the tank.</DIV>

Someone had obviously painted it black in the past and although paint remover has worked, it leaves a rather "unloved" appearance.
