Yes, it is a concern when using aluminum and cast iron together in a cooling system. Slowly over time the aluminum will be eaten away as the coolant circulates through the system. The solution is to have some magnesium in the system to act as a sacrificial anode so that the magnesium is eaten away instead of the aluminum. If you have a surge tank or over flow bottle you put some solid magnesium in there. I have also seen a product where the magnesium hangs from the radiator cap. I can't remember what catalog I saw that product in. Anybody remember seeing it somewhere?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"> <o></o></P></DIV> <DIV>Jim Seisser <BR><BR><BR>-----Original Message----- <BR>From: Jeff Fox <JFOXNASA@WORLDNET.ATT.NET><BR>Sent: Mar 30, 2005 6:59 PM <BR>To: shelbymustang@carmemories.com <BR>Subject: Corrosion w/Aluminum Heads, Water Pump & Radiator <BR><BR></DIV><ZZZHTML><ZZZHEAD><ZZZMETA content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv="Content-Type"><ZZZMETA content="MSHTML 6.00.2900.2604" name="GENERATOR"> <STYLE></STYLE> </ZZZHEAD><ZZZBODY bgColor="#ffffff"> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I know there was a series of e-mails at one time talking about corrosion in the cooling system when using a<FONT size=2>luminum heads, water pump, radiator, etc. with a cast iron block.
