Jim Cowles you hit the nail on the head. Nobody should mess with bidders in a currently active auction to try and sell them a similar item, but it happens all the time. I'm sure and it happens on items that are not high end too. That is the perfect reason for having a private auction, it helps protect the seller. But the down side is that the bidder IDs all remain hidded after the auction is over. This does not help protect the bidders or future bidders of something from the same seller and gives all sellers the opportunity to have and hide shill bidding in their auctions and for it to go and continue auction after auction undetected. Until E-Bay will change the pratice of keeping the ID's hidden "after" a private auction is completed it will always cast a shadow on all sellers who lists their auctions as private auctions. Ending this pratice of keeping all the bidder IDs hidden "after" the auction is over is in the best long term interest of both sellers and buyers on E-Bay. Do people agree or disagree? I agree completely. I too run private auctions, and always post right in the listing that any bidder can request a screen printout from me AFTER the auction showing all the other bidders. Mind you, not stalkers, only bidders will get a printout to show that my auctions are run "on the money". Now if they'd only do that at live auctions !
