Re: Fw:

Discussion in 'Shelby Mustang List' started by APPTELINC@aol.com, Jan 24, 2005.

  1. One day soon we will see even more "marginal" cars on eBay being bid to the
    roof.
What will something like this be worth when all the decent cars are restored
and bring the really big $$$?

Steven: BJ & R&S this week...looking at the catalogs - any predictions?

NY Times Mentioned the Huge interest in Shelby cars today on the front page
    of the automobile section.

  2. I don't have the books for either auction but was told that very few Shelby's are in either - can you look at your books and confirm? Was also told by same person that the Shelby's at BJ are mostly green cars (?) that are either still green or color change?

Take a look and let me know

    Thanks

So 69/70 cars are "blue chips" but CSX2000 cars, 66 GT350s, and 67/68 cars are not? Hmmmmm. SGB, have you been drinking that special Kool Aid of yours again?

Reportedly a 69 GT500 cvt just sold yesterday at the Kruse auction here in Az for a healthy price, but can not confirm.

There are some good Shelbys out here, a great 66, a nice 2000 Cobra, a comp Cobra, some nice 67's, 2 KR's, etc. Maybe not as well represented as they could be , but please consider that I also collect GTOs , and there is not ONE Judge at any of the 6 auctions out here. And they made a lot more Judges than Shelby Mustangs. So, in comparison , I think Shelbys are pretty well represented with the exception of 65 GT350s. IMHO.

I will confirm the 69 and let you know. I heard it was an average car that sold for around 120k.

So, why isn't the largest private buyer of Shelbys out here with us small time collectors ? LOL

  7. Small time collector? You? Your website says anything but!!

Colin, one day you will have to explain to me how many millions you inherited in order to buy your way onto the Muscle car circuit, of late. You must be carrying around two million dollars of inventory or so, wouldn't you say? Not bad for a small time "collector".

In the meantime MOST (not all) of the Shelby cars at BJ are GREEN and green just does not bring the big money (in my book). History backs me up on that one.

Let me know about the 69 GT 500 CV and how it did - This next seven days should be very interesting

    Re: Dear Mr. Becker -

    Stephen,

I appreciate your opinions on the market. Talk lists such as this are for like-minded individuals to share opinions. This is what makes life interesting after all, isn't it?

As far as your comments on me , I would not only ask why you feel why my personal information is any of your concern, or that it has absolutely anything at all to do with the discussion at hand. I merely made a comment that a bunch of us are out here watching the cars sell , why aren't you? Hence the "laugh out loud" after said comment.

I will tell you this: All of my family and close friends are alive and well , thank you very much, and I would certainly not trade any of them for even one dollar of inheritance. I appreciate your concern, however. And I do believe you are aware that my father has been battling cancer for some time and it has been very trying at times. Rest assured, neither of my parents have any degree of wealth so there is no inheritance in the future as far as I know. I would think that most people that have inherited money would be willing to give it all back for the people they lost, wouldn't you? Rest assured , I have also heard all of the other rumors on me throughout the years. I have heard reports that I am a trust fund baby, a drug dealer, have wealthy parents, am related to Gary Comer, founder of Land's End, etc. I assure you that none of these rumors are true. I guess this is what a young guy like me should expect working into the "old boys club"?

Furthermore, I don't know how working diligently for the last eighteen years building a business from scratch and working as hard as one can constitutes "buying my way on to the muscle car circuit". Trust me, I wish it had been that easy! Feel free to look through any Hemmings from now back through the late 1980's for my ads. I have been buying, selling, and COLLECTING for years. Have I been fortunate enough to make some lucky choices and have some great cars that have appreciated? Yes! I didn't know there was any harm in that. There seems to be a perception among the old guard that I "came out of nowhere". Actually, nothing could be further from the truth. But I can see why it would look like that. Within the last few years I sold some cars I have had for a long time and have been re-investing in cars I would rather have long term. And yes, I have also advertised my business more as of late. It is a natural progression of what I have been building for years. All businesses do this. And I like to think I also give something back to the hobby as well. For example,if you recall, I donated a good amount of merchandise to the Shelby American Collection at the holiday party, as well as being quite generous on my bidding on the silent auction items I purchased. I don't remember what you donated or bought? Remember, I am only a Shelby collector and occasional seller. I primarily sell other makes and that is my bread and butter. But I support SAAC and the Museum, the MCA, etc., because it is my passion. You are one of the only people I know that is a 100% Shelby broker/dealer . Perhaps in years to come we can expect more support from you?

And yes, I am a small time dealer and a small time collector. You know the cars that I own personally, and I think you know that I love them and use them. What my BUSINESS carries in inventory does not have any relation to what I PERSONALLY own. I fail to see your point on that issue. It is not about the money for me. It is about the cars. I have made a lot of sacrifices through the years to buy cars. Sacrifices a normal, practical person would think were ridiculous , since "they are just silly cars!". What can I say, I live simply, have no children to support, and cars are both my hobby and my career. I was one of the weird guys who liked muscle cars before it was "socially acceptable."

I simply found it odd that the self proclaimed "Single Largest private buyer and seller of Shelby Cobra Mustangs in the WORLD" (per your advertisements) would not be out here for the superbowl of car auctions. If nothing else it sure shows us where the market is heading, would you not agree? Anybody laying claim to the title market expert or even commenting on the cars here should at least see them, in my humble opinion. Regardless, no harm was meant by my comment. I only ask that in the future if you have a question as to my financial status or any other personal information that you contact me directly and leave the public forums for public issues. You have my contact info.

    Most respectfully,
    Colin Comer

Small time collector? You? Your website says anything but!!

Colin, one day you will have to explain to me how many millions you inherited in order to buy your way onto the Muscle car circuit, of late. You must be carrying around two million dollars of inventory or so, wouldn't you say? Not bad for a small time "collector".

In the meantime MOST (not all) of the Shelby cars at BJ are GREEN and green just does not bring the big money (in my book). History backs me up on that one.

Let me know about the 69 GT 500 CV and how it did - This next seven days should be very interesting

LOL

This is your quote "SGB, have you been drinking that special Kool Aid of yours again?"

    Funny, or not?

In the future, I suggest that if you can dish it out be prepared to take it. Been in the business 25 years?? Me too - Lots of scare tissue to help me deal with folks, such as you, who seem to be able to dish it out yet cry "foul" when it comes time to take a bit back.
