OK, you guys got me going...
I was 13 or so in 1971, my father was in the Airforce stationed at
Edwards Airforce base in CA.....He was a SR-71 test pilot and his
fighter pilot buddy was a guy named Ted Moller..One day Ted
stopped by to visit and drove up in a 196? SL300 gullwing...he took
dad for a ride and then me...I lOVED that car...It made all kinds of
noise and the doors opened really cool like...Well now my dad
wanted a neat sports car and drove home in a 1956 T-Bird with a HI-
PO 289 with 2 4bls...4sp...Dad would never burn the tires, just
"churp" them. Well when my uncle stopped by to visit he took me
out in the t-bird and burned the tires and smoke filled the car!..I
really was hooked then...Dad would put 3 kids in the t-bird and ride
all over the place..(Im leading up to the shelby)...Well dad told me
when I turned 16 he would give me the t-bird..Well he sold it when I
    turned 15...(Never forgave him)...Next..Year was 1974 I was 16 and
my dad gave me his uncles 1967 chevy belaire with a 327...4 dr.
powerglide...(Lame)..I was looking through the magazines for for
speed stuff to make it fast like the t-bird...Well, I was driving home
from high school 1 weekend on leave (valley forge military
academy) and I spot a 1967 GTO parked in a used car lot..the
ones with all the light bulbs strung around..I pull into the lot and
ask how much for the 4sp A/C Goat...the salesman tell me
$1,800....I ask how much he would give me for my 1967
chevy...$500 dollars...Cool!, I got the rest at home from cutting
lawns..!..I drove home like a bat out of hell afraid the car would be
gone..I buy the GTO and im sure dad would kill me..Well thanks to
mom smoothing things over and the dealer getting rid of dads car
before he showed up, I got to keep the GTO..
One saturday when I was cruising to the local hangout I was
stopped at a light waiting for it to change..Up pulled a 1967 GT500
making all kinds of noise and looking for a fight...
Well the light turned green and We both punched it...Now my GTO
    was no wimp, G60 Tires, Holley, 400eng.. etc.....But...after 1st
gear, the Shelby was gone...I hit 2nd gear and he was really
gone!..I could not believe I got beat so bad..I turned around and
went home..I was afraid he was going to the same cruise
in...Sooooo...After college and many mustangs, I traded my way
    up to a 67 gt500, and a 68 gt350...now maybe I wont get spanked
    at the light next time...heheheheh...

Hey Cevon...Great story!! Years back I used to work with a couple of United
Airlines Test flight Pilots... (I was working for UAL as an in-flight
trouble shooting Tech.at the time) Both were retired Air Force and flew the
SR71. I only knew them by their nick names..Rocky and I think if my memory
serves me, a guy named BJ. I would almost bet that your dad would of knew
    them. Best regards..John 67#2472
