Auction says the seller is a Mopar collector out of Austin, Texas. Seems a little strange to be selling two high end cars in a single auction like this. Bidding is over $300,000 and still has not met reserve. Some the the bidders ID's on this auction seem familiar some of you. Wouldn't the seller do better to sell these cars as separate auctions? Jim Seisser Jim, The seller probably remembers the pair of Corvettes that went for big bucks at B-J in January- one very early car, one late, with "matching" color schemes, maybe even some matching in the VIN's, if I remember correctly. I've contemplated doing the same thing with my two GT500's (67 fastback, 68 convertible), but I'm not sure that a random pair like that (the only common factors are that they are nice Shelbys owned by me) would provide for the synergy that would allow the pair to be worth more than the two as individuals. Now, if I could manage to get a new GT500 in the same colors with a little VIN matching- say, the last three or four digits- to my 67, that might be an interesting pair, but I don't have much confidence in anybody being able to dig that kind of response out of FoMoCo. I'm sort of done with auction selling anyway, after taking four cars to Auburn Spring and basically wholesaling three of them (had to- I'd bought four since the prior fall and had no aisle left in the barn), I'm beginning to think that the convenience does not outweigh the financial hit that occurs unless you are at Scottsdale or Monterey and more than one young "companion" leans over and says, "Honey, I want THAT one!", thereby generating a world record. Speaking of pairs- we had an idea last year that, since the retractable mechanism in the late 50's Skyliners was originally designed for the Continental Mark II, it might be fun to make a restomod retractable Mark II to go with our 19,000-mile restored 56. Anybody know- has this ever been done? Enough random thoughts... Cheers, Mike Heroy CSX4045 67 GT500 #841 68 GT500 #389 85 SVO
