Re: Power steering slave cylinder

  1. Be careful Tom,another cause for that symptom is the steering box. After
    35 + years most of the grease in unrestored steering boxes is the
    consistency of playdoe. If your box has never been rebuilt I am sure it
    needs it by now. Every car I have ever restored has upon examination
    needed to be rebuilt. But to get you for now you might try this.There
    is a slotted bolt with a lock nut that adjusts the play in the gears .
    Have someone wiggle the steering wheel back and forth(1/4 turn) and
    tighten the slotted bolt until it just drags then back it off half a
    turn and lock it down with the nut. I can almost guarantee the box needs
    to rebuilt even if your control valve was bad too. Shelby Parts and
    Restoration (Green Bay WI) has done a few foe me and I am extremely
    impressed with the results . He also does control valves. I highly
    recommend. If your doing a show car Jim can even detail it to look NOS.
