Gran Tourismo is the original correct words for GT. Came from Italian Cars with the original US usage on the GTO, meaning Grans Tourismo Olmagato (probably spelled that one wrong). Ford generally used the GT to designate a package for handling, going back to the Italian origins. You probably ran across a Chevie Lover who was not old enough to remember the spankings Carrol's toys put on the bow tie crowd.
