TheCarSource.com Shelby Mustang List ------------------------------------ All of the early steel inner structure hoods and trunks were only body color .The later all fiberglass ones could be ether body color or they could be semi gloss black. All 67 era press and magazine photos show only body color but we know from many ,many original cars that the black out was common also. I have come to the conclusion that if the body color paint was't good enough or rework had to be done it was painted black instead. When the under trunklid was black out the under hood was blacked out, if the under trunklid was body color so was the under hood. hope this helps. TheCarSource.com Shelby Mustang List ------------------------------------ I did forget to mention that the bare fiberglass was a almost black gelcoat and some pieces missed being blacked out but since they were so black anyway it wasn't noticed . So technically there was 3 ways a all fiberglass underhood or undertrunk lid could be that was body color ,blacked out or unpainted black fiberglass. I said black fiberglass because i didn't want to see a unpainted gray bare fiberglass undertrunk or underhood. TheCarSource.com Shelby Mustang List ------------------------------------ Several years ago I did a cosmetic restoration on an original 67 350 black plate car. The bottom of the hood was black with "aluminum foil" glued on it. The hood was all glass. As I recall the bottom of the trunk lid was also black. More confusion????
