"Strange" is that they are mistake ones (Ford got a digit wrong the 1 instead of an O) but I've seen a fair number of these. Not as familar with New Jersey cars as with the others so shorted "hidden" VINs is the norm in the 1971 - up Mustangs Don't have my books here so I'm unsure if this is a very late car Jeff S -----Original Message----- From: ecj <ecj@peoplepc.com> Sent: Mar 8, 2005 10:02 PM To: shelbymustang@carmemories.com Subject: Strange Body VIN Stamping on 1970 Mustang on E-Bay Interersting 428 1970 Mustang project car on E-Bay. It has a very strange VIN stamping on the inner fenders. It is auction # 4533214332. Has anybody seen partial Mustang VIN numbers stamped like this before? Has anyone on the list seen a '70 Mustang with NO v.i.n.# on the shock towers? I recently worked on one, and through some research, I found that there were a few cars built, that did not get stamped. This was a Dearborn car, built in May of '70. I wonder if there were any other "hidden" v.i.n.#'s on these cars. Goes to show you that anything could happen. Ken, If the inner fender was rusted and someone replaced it with repro sheet metal, it would not have the numbers. It would take alot of effort to cut theVIN out of the original inner fender and butt-weld it into the new inner fender. John; The Boss that I worked on, had never had any panel replacement, and my research was supported by actual experiences from some of the members posting on the Boss 302 forum, www.boss302.com In addition, all of the date code stampings matched the rest of the car. Strange but true.
