The vest place is to look in one of the many "hidden" areas
on your car. The color of the undercarriage depended on the
year and plant ... even day your was assembled.

If every thing is removed the next best source would be
another Mustang built at the same on or about the same time
as your car. This could include cars within a 4,000
sequential number range from your car but there is no quick
way of telling if a car was or was not.

Look in places where oil and grease will have protected the
finish from the elements. A few additional items to
    mention

    1. Remember that the correct (and best choice) of product
for this job is epoxy primer. Originally it sealed out the
elements (primer does not) and prevented rusting

    2. Over this we would see semi-gloss black from the firewall
and front wheel well painting on the front edge of the floor
pans. (how much depends again on the factory the car was
built at). Can extend along the front frame rails a bit but
the rest of the rail may be coated due to the pinch weld
    black-out mentioned below

    3. Over that we would expect to see over spray from the
exterior color (on the floor pans forward of the rear end
rise. Heavier at the outer edge but none normally on the
first 3-5 inches inward of the pinch weld

    4. Over spray (black again) from the pinch weld black out
process. This was done prior to installing the front fenders
and rear valance ( the valance was installed at some
factories partially but not tightened against the body) This
should coat the pinch weld and the rocker and quarter panels
approx 1/2" from where the two meet. The over spray normally
did not travel as far as the exterior color nor was it as
    heavy

Since they were assembled as Mach I's a very small amount
(again depending on the worker) sound deadener was applied
to a couple of locations on the car.

    Hope this helps

detailing on 69 shelby mustang.I am not necessarily looking
for concours just some nice correct type clean-up, painting
and primer. What books would be helpful, etc? maybe someone
has some pics that would help greatly? I recently had it
repainted and I'm not looking to disassemble.. thanks in
    advance. Roger 70 GT500

  2. Hey Jeff -

Excellent written resource for the 1969 cars - Thank you - I printed it out
and put it in my resource book. I have yet to see a 1969 or 1970 Shelby
(Shelby ONLY) that did not have red oxide in the transmission tunnel. It
appears that they all got the red stuff at least in the transmission tunnel.

    Tracking a car

I had an e mail from a guy who wants to find his dad's old shelby - He knows
the VIN number but has no clue how to find the car. Neither do I. Here is a
"outpost" that I e mailed him back. If anyone has any ideas please let me
    know.

    Thanks

1969 GT 500 - Get me the info and I will pass onto the guy

I passed on two CSX cars in the last 30 days - one for 310k and one for
375k - both driver cars and nothing special - BJ had a horrible example of
one that was black, had a NOM, etc. that brought almost 400k with
    commissions.....................

    Yikes!!
