Years ago a friend of mine had a 12,000 mile red 67 GT500( Jan. 95 Mustang Monthly). For the two years he owned it he threatened to bring it to me to have it striped. I've kicked myself many time for not buying it for $32,000.

    Don't feel bad. I sold my first '67 G.T.500 in ...

1980 to this guy for three times what I had paid for it. I thought that I had really raped him. What an idiot I was !!!

Charley: From what I understand about the '67....

models up through 1970 if a Shelby of one of those years had LeMans stripes then the dealer who sold the car put them on. Of course that could be corrected by you. That is what I believe to be the case. How do you know that your car left the plant with stripes? I'm asking a sincere, genuine question. I'm not being a smartass.

I believe your car is in a class of its own. Every picture I have ever seen of it had its unusual stripes on it.

I just know Shelby built it, made a movie testing Goodyear tires with it and it had the stripes on it during the movie. It doesn't seem like they would build the car, ship it to the dealer to have stripes added and then ship it back to use in the movie.

I have one 67 GT 350 with stripes, and a 67 GT 500 without stripes.
In 1969 my brother bought a 67 GT 350 that had dealer installed stripes.

I am glad I could stimulate some conversation amongst you guys!! I think the Le Mans stripes look great on some colors (White with Blue) and others look pretty nice without them.

Since I started this post a few days back I found myself 1968 GT500KR Convertible. Highland Green with the original black interior and a black top. Clean as a whistle and way below market. I had my brother who lives near by go check out all the matching numbers etc.. It still has the factory window sticker, original seats, original fog lights (rare I guess), original radio, all shelby insignia's in the right places. New exhaust and shocks. It was repainted a year ago.

OK guys I took some flack for buying the GT500E Convertible Supersnake (will be done in June). I hope you can give me a big virtual hug for jumping into the "originals" club as well. Both cars will be a blast to own and drive. Yes I will drive the KR in rally's etc., no tarp and parking it in the garage!!

    The car ships Monday!!!!! YEEEEEHAAAAAAAA

OK class, the SuperSnake stripes ARE NOT LeMans stripes.
"Dealer installed"? Sure, right after I see your dealer paperwork showing the charges.

Getting back on topic here, I found this listing online for all Mustangs sold at Barret Jackson in January.

I love your guys knowledge, just awesome to sit here and learn the history of something as simple as Le Mans stripes. Not so simple after all.

I spend more time on this site than I do working!

Now if someone can tell me the real number of 427 Side Oiler 1967 GT500's made, I would love to know. Some say the Supersnake is the only original but I have heard that a handful of others exist.
