If I get details in this wrong, it is because I heard the story second hand, but the humor of the story should stand regardless of statistical errors. So a friend of my father's had a Cobra replica, with a 302 in it (I think). Well, the 200+ horsepower he was getting out of it wasn't enough to satisfy him, so he upgraded to a 500ish hp 427. So as he was working under the hood, his son gets into the car and steps on the throttle, and my father's friend sees that due to the complexity of the throttle linkage, there was slack in it somewhere (?) and only the primaries on the four-barrel were opening. So instead of a 200hp jump, we figure this is around a 300hp jump. Quite the upgrade I feel. jim
True, this is a very common overlooked area. You would be amazed at the number of carbs, specifically Holley mechanical secondary carbs, that I have seen that the secondarys come no where close to opening fully. The secondary linkage almost always has to be bent in order to get them to open all the way.
