I'm trying to undo the hack-job the original owner did to my '69. Wiring in trunk had sections of wiring missing, spliced, and sequential boxes removed. I bought cougar wiring harness on ebay and it looks identical (except not hacked up). I bought new electronic sequential control board. But it seems previous owner ALSO did some rewiring under the dash, as signals on wiring don't seem to match what the factory schematics (Shelby-unique) suggest.

So two questions: (a) should a Cougar XR7 underdash harness be an exact swap? (b) has anyone decoded what signals are on which plugs? (there's a 4-connector black plug, a 4-connector white plug, a 2-connector black plug, and a one-connector blue plug)?

I looked up the tail light harness and it does appear that it is the same as the Cougar. It has a C9WY-part number. The under dash harness is not the same to the best of my knowledge. I am pretty sure you need a Mustang GT/Tach style underdash harness. ITs kind of a PIA to trace the wires by wire colors, but it can be done. I am familiar with all the Mustang underdash connectors, but I do not know the Cougar versions.

I have all new harnesses for sale if you decide to change direction and really clean up your issues. The bad news is these two harnesses are the two most expensive ones I sell.

The 69/70 Shelby taillight harness is NOT the same as the 69 Cougar. The 69 Cougar taillight harness could be rigged up to work but is not the same. The 69/70 Shelby taillight harness is unique to 69/70 Shelby partially because the Shelby harness had to have it's own ground incorporated into the Shelby harness because of the all fiberglass Shelby tailpanel. The Shelby harness had special clips that grounded the bulb receptacle's. The Cougar harness on the other hand utilized the grounding properties of the all steel Cougar sheetmetal tailpanel. There are lot of things that the Cougar shared with the 69/70 Shelby but the taillight harness is not one of them. Bob

The Pete, the one you sent me to look at and compare to my originals certainly impressed me. I would use the one you sell in a second if I didn't have a excellent genuine factory Shelby one to use. Bob
