Auto tech students plan benefit for Ron Hillman By Staff Reports Wednesday, July 20, 2011 11:10 AM CDT The Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology student club at Northeast Texas Community College is hosting a Friends of Ron Hillman Benefit Cruise-In and Movie Night on Saturday, July 30, from 6-10 p.m. at the NTCC automotive shop on the main campus. All proceeds from the evening will directly benefit Ron Hillman, Director of the NTCC Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program, who is very ill and in need of a liver transplant. Hillman moved to the area from Atlanta, Georgia, in 2009 when he accepted the position at NTCC. He and his wife, Ann, reside in Mount Pleasant and are members of the First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant. “No one ever knows when a major medical crisis is going to happen. The Shelby Auto Tech students approached me about sponsoring a benefit to help Ron and his family and I thought it was an excellent idea,” Keith Fennimore, Interim Director of the Shelby Program, said. “NTCC is a close-knit family and we want to do everything we can when someone is in need.” Owners of all makes and models of vehicles are encouraged to stop by to show off their rides and enjoy an evening of family fun and entertainment for a good cause. Children will be able to vote for their favorite vehicle and a “Kid¹s Choice” award will be presented at the end of the evening. There is no cost to attend the event, but donations are welcome. In addition to the cruise-in, there will also be live music by Rock and Roll Revival, food and drinks, a silent auction featuring items signed by Carroll Shelby, a bake sale, a car bash, and much more. The NTCC Film Club will host an outdoor movie suitable for all ages after dark. The movie is also free and concessions will be available to purchase. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring blankets and/or lawn chairs to enjoy the film. Shelby Auto Tech students will also be performing “Dyno runs” that will provide diagnostics on vehicle performance for a fee of $25. A limited number of runs will be done during the event, but appointments may also be made for other dates. The retail price of a similar service is generally more than $100. A “Friends of Ron Hillman” account has been opened at Guaranty Bond Bank. Those who would like to help, but are unable to attend the event, may make deposits at any Guaranty Bond Bank location. Donations of baked goods to be sold at the event are also welcomed. For more information about the Friends of Ron Hillman Cruise-In Movie Night benefit, please contact Fennimore at 903-434-8159.
