Come on, I know someone out there has to want a perfect condition Shelby Dakota. I would rather it go to someone who will take care of it the same way I do. I figure this is the best place to start. I dont want to sell it locally.
Be patient, the right buyer will come. Do you have complete history of the truck? Does it have any Shelby Motorsports upgrades? I think a Shelby Dakota would be a cool tow vehicle. It would look good pulling a red Cobra. robin
I dont know how to tell if it had shelby factory upgrades or not.Dont you have to have the list of the total production line to know which trucks got them and which ones did not?I dont know how to tell otherwise.I have another one(#1131 RED) that is not stock and I had best results with a second ram air in the second snorkel on the air cleaner(had to lose the horn to do that),stage 2 jet chip, free flow exhaust(lose the cat).
The upgrades I am thinking would have been either dealer or owner installed. Shelby offered a performance upgrade that included a larger throttle body and recalibrated computer. Another desirable upgrade would be Recaro seating. Just like the CSX option with mounting hardware to fit the Dakota. Very rare stuff now. robin
I heard about the upgrades but unsure since I just bought it a year ago that what is on there is an upgrade(part# etc.)I have 2 of these trucks,1 since it was brand new and the computers look similar, but have not checked the throttle body.Does anyone know of how to tell if the computer and throttle body are performance upgrades and not stock?
The performance upgrade also came with a flowmaster muffler, this would be your first clue. Second check the part-no. on the computer, if it is the stock one the number should match the one on the truck that you have not upgraded. If you need the part-no. of performace computer I can dig it up for you. Third on the throttle body, just take off the air cleaner top and look down the throat of the body. The butterflies will be much larger than the opening on the intake manifold. The throttle body was from the 5.9 engine and would fit the 5.2 intake with no modification due to the thickness of the gasket, however on mine I did remove intake and open the ports. If this has been done you should be able to see some grinding marks or some slight imperfections as most of us used a hand held device!! I as well have two of the Shelby Dakota's and have owned since 1990, first one had 800 miles when purchased and the second was a dealer buyback thru Chrysler. It had only 4300 miles at the time of purchase, I have enjoyed both trucks. One of them also has factory cruise and the Recaro option from Shelby Auto's. Steve
First of all thanks to Steve for all the usefull info,I was hoping someone would know a little about the upgrades.I am always looking for ways to make my trucks better.Steve are there any other mods you have done to yours that could be usefull to me?All Ive done is a second ram air, stage 2 chip, free flow exhaust, but thats all I can see that would help.I figured maybe killing the computer was all there was to do left.I would prefer not to do this.Steve could you send me some pics of the recaro seating and cruise control to charles.mitchell@firstdatacorp.com I have not seen this yet. Charles
Better yet, please post pictures in this site's photo gallery. Few people have probably seen a Recaro equipped Dakota. robin
I will try and post some pics of the seats this weekend, they are currently out of truck and bench seat back in. The seats are on a self in the garage!! As soon as the snow melts around here I will post pics of the cruise control. The cruise set-up is the same as the V-6 Dakota's, all wiring is under dash and hood already and is an easy upgrade if you have all parts. I have not seen any other Shelby Dakota's with cruise yet. Other mods on the truck include Hooker Super Compitition Headers, 4:30 Gears, Custom Computer "no speed limiter", Mopar Performace 55 H.P Heads, lowered 2" in rear, A-518 Trans and Shelby's 25 H.P kits as I posted above. This truck has been in storage since 1996 after some moron pulled out in front of me!! 15 stiches in the face for me, permanent scars and a week off of work, a totaled truck for both of us. I still get pissed every time I look at it. Accident happend less than 5 miles from Mr Shelby's ranch in Texas. Engine in the firewall, bed into the back of cab and the whole bit, I was working for Chrysler at the time and purchased all parts to put it back together as close as possible to the real thing. Truck is currently drivable thanks to a donor body, it also has a salvage title and is the color of the donor vehicle, blue. I am really bummed out about the whole deal, but glad I have 2 of them and one is still in very original condition. I will let you know as soon as pics are posted!! Steve
