I was wondering if anyone has stories or links referencing the racing history of the Shelby Dodge era. I've got some older mags that show the first Shelby Chargers running in the IMSA series, but nothing on the on the Shelby Race Team running any of the turbo cars of the era. I know there was a 87 CSX that was ran, yet I've seen very little about it. If you have stories, then share'm!! I'd like to hear them. Photo's would be great too.
I used to see Joe Varde and whoever it was on his team racing the Shelby Chargers in IMSA back when I was crewing with another team. At the time Patrick Shelby was racing the Formula Atlantic with the pickup version of the Shelby Charger as a support vehicle. I talked to him a few times at events. I also remember some of them racing in SCCA Showroom Stock classes, but I don't think they had much Shelby factory backing. Of course you have the include the Shelby CanAm which had pretty good popularity for a few years. I think it was a racing series that had great potential, but it was never realized for some reason (SCCA mis-management).
Who is Patrick Shelby? I heard of Michael Shelby, Shelby's son, but is Patrick another name he goes by? This is the first I have heard of any involvement by any of Shelby's children in motorsports. Have his children ever gone on record why they didn't want to work in the car business? (I think one is a banker, and his daughter is married to a partner in a restaurant chain).
Suppose we should let Randall answer that one..... Michael and Patrick are brothers. Patrick is Randall's father.
