I am getting really tired of fixing the top stripes. Every once in a while I notice another corner beginning to peel or fade. From what I've learned about vinyl- anything metallic will fade quickly, and silver is the LEAST resistant to UV light.

The GT500 is available with stripe delete options and they look great either way. I mean, the car is still a Shelby with or without the top stripes.

So..... (this may sound like a stupid question), but has anyone considered removing the top stripes on their Shelby GT?

Have you thought about Getting a complete set of Stripes and putting them away for safe keeping, then Peeling yours Off. That way IF you ever decide to sell the Car, you can give the new Owner the Stripes.

I will probably NEVER sell this car (wanted a Shelby since I was a kid, saved up for it, etc.). However, I have considered buying a complete set for safe keeping. The only problem is that vinyl deteriorates even in storage. The adhesive goes bad and the vinyl becomes stiff. I was just wondering if anyone else has gotten fed up and removed them. Otherwise, I may end up being the only SGT without top stripes.

If you really love the stripes
    1) paint them on
2)the crap they use is really cheap, quality, not price.Contact a reputable vinyl trim installer and have them do your stripes.
    3)give up
4)only drive at night so they get no uv damage
5)tell your wife the car is worn out and you need a new one

    It really sucks,good luck

    Hmmmm....... I choose option 2.

Are the ones made by (or for) Shelby really that poorly made?

A kid that hangs with my 15 1/2 year old son got a 2005 v-6 hand me down with silver stripes that were put on by mom and dad to dress it up for older brother, they still look nice.
Next time hes over I'll ask him how old they are,and really look them over;he keeps the car gleaming like a diamond in a goats butt and they don't look faded spotty or peeling.
When I see it I'll post again.

Everything I do I use "Highperformance Vinyl" It lasts the longest and the way to tell if it is the Cheap Stuff is to feel how THICK it is. All Factory Stripes that I have ever seen on New Cars are the Thick stuff, really cheap Vinyl. Highperformance Vinyl is really really really Thin.

Well, I went ahead and removed the top stripes. I am planning on replacing them soon, but I have to admit that the basic look is growing on me.

I haven't made a permanent decision, but I have a friend on mine (who isn't a Shelby nut) that thinks my SGT looks strange without the stripes. I suppose if I could find a paint shop in So Cal that I trust- that's the way I would go.

I suppose part of me feels they should have been painted on originally.

I found a place that will make them for a reasonable price. I just need to find an installer. Anyone consider changing to stripe color to blue or black perhaps?

I am thinking the car would look better without the stripes. There are so many lesser Mustangs with the racing stripes that you really need to be subdued in order to stand out.

My 09 500 is stripe delete;iron fist in a velvet glove,Shes Black paint Black top Black interior;very low key,my 03 Cobra wears the same paint scheme.
I like the low key look, kind of Boss 429 like, who needs lots of bling when your drivin' these beasts:guns:

I bought my 07 SGT in Nov. from a dealer in Az. The Stripes had all ready come off and the dealer sent it back to Shelby and they painted them on. I was lucky to wait to buy this car, had the up dates and sold for the pirce of a regular Mustang. Good thing happen to thoes who wait.

I've thought about silver stripes. But my ultimate plan is to have ghost stripes painted on the car along with the Shelby GT on the side of the car.
