First Shelby 5S071 age 26 Followed by a 66 BP GT350, 68 GT350 conv, 68 GT500 fsbk, 68 KR conv, 68 GT500 conv, and a 66 GT350 in that order. Currently Shelbyless at 60, but I have an 88 Saleen and three other Mustang convertibles. I'll correct this oversight next year when a new, yellow GT500 will be living in my garage. Lee Mathias

There were several other Shelbys running at all of the local events, but Lee managed to just raise the driving of that car to a unique art form. This is not intended as anything against any of the other local Shelby guys from the time, as they were all some of the best drivers to get behind the wheels of these cars. But Lee and 5S071 was just a special combination. > Followed by a 66 BP GT350, 68 GT350 conv, 68 GT500 fsbk, 68 KR conv, 68 >GT500 conv, and a 66 GT350 in that order. The 68 GT350 Conv that Lee mentions is #03082 that is still owned jointly by my mother and myself. Some of you might remember the video of my mom autocrossing it on her 65'th birthday last year I posted the link to (Sorry the video is not online now). Since her birthday is April 17th and it happens to be a pretty special day for Mustangs in general, and there is a local autocross on that day, we are going to try to repeat last years "celebration". > Currently Shelbyless at 60, but I have an 88 Saleen and three other >Mustang convertibles. > I'll correct this oversight next year when a new, yellow GT500 will be >living in my garage. Lee without a Shelby is one of those things that creates an imbalance in the universe in my opinion. Calvin http://www.highrpm.net/calvins/photos/cars
Calvin (and all)...Sure wish I could step back in time and see Lee in action. Back in the mid-to-late '60's, I was autocrossing Porsches in Texas...small world. Rest assured, 5S071 is safe and sound for posterity.
