Shelby Mustang Email List ------------------------------ Hi All, Just a follow-up on the guy that rented the new Hertz Shelby and took it to the local Shelby Show; and won best in show. On Monday, the day after the show, he wrecked the car.... He said he hit a deer going through Pennsylvania on his way to Chicago. A picture is attached. So to sum it up. He rented the car on Friday in Boston and drove to New Jersey. Saturday he drove to Syracuse. Won best in show on Sunday and drove back to New Jersey. Monday he was the first person to wreck one of the new Hertz Shelby rental cars. Total miles = 1,048. Apparently Hertz is not quite sure what to do about the car as it is still in New Jersey. Jim ------ Hi All, The 66 Hertz cars are buddies of mine. The story on the new one is kind of funny. The guy who rented it lives in New Jersey. He flew to Boston to rent it for the week and drove it back to New Jersey. He then drove it to the Ford/Shelby show in Syracuse, New York (5 hours). It is serial number 13. He then drove it back to New Jersey last night. He plans to drive it to Chicago to visit friends than take it back to Boston. Obviously he has unlimited miles..... The car is pretty cool. It had a crowd around it the whole day, I happened to have my car right next to it at the show. Instructions say it must be hand washed only, and he said the late fee for returning the car is $64.50 per hour... The best part of the story is that he got the "Best in Show" trophy. I wonder if he will give it to Hertz when he returns the car. I told him he should tell the Hertz people he won it racing the car. Jim ------ Hi All, I took this picture at a local car show today, thought you would like to see it Jim _http://home.twcny.rr.com/jim13mac/DSC00087.JPG_ (http://home.twcny.rr.com/jim13mac/DSC00087.JPG) _______________________________________________ ShelbyMustang mailing list Send email to ShelbyMustang (AT) thecarsource (DOT) com Membership Administration http://thecarsource.com/mailman/listinfo/shelbymustang_thecarsource.com Group Web Page http://www.thecarsource.com/shelbymustang

One of the other stories was about someone who has rented one and will keep it for the daily rental fee until Hertz decides the car is his. The other story escapes me at the moment. Yes ... and I've got to say .... what an idiot. Let's see its like holding a gun to your head and telling the PD that if you come any closer ... "I'll shoot him". At the same time he's creating a story for the car. Pete....sorry I didn't get a chance to stop by. Everytime I passed you were in the middle of things. Shelby Mustang Email List ------------------------------ If you do the math though, it's a money loser. At around $300 a day to rent, that's $2,100 a week, times however many weeks/years Hertz takes to decide to sell it. It'll cost the guy $109,500.00 to rent it for one year. I heard that Hertz is going to sell them after around 14,000 to 24,000 miles is put on the cars. So this guy better do alot of driving. Kenny Everyones heard of odometer rollbacks, how about odometer roll forwards? Now that's what I would do if I were that guy. _______________________________________________ ShelbyMustang mailing list Send email to ShelbyMustang (AT) thecarsource (DOT) com Membership Administration http://thecarsource.com/mailman/listinfo/shelbymustang_thecarsource.com Group Web Page http://www.thecarsource.com/shelbymustang

Shelby Mustang Email List ------------------------------ If I recall correctly, I read somewhere that Hertz was renting them for $129 a day. So, cut that number in half. I also wonder if you could talk them into a long term lease, ie weekly for a slightly reduced rate. And finally, I am sure that Hertz would prob agree to sell the car to you after 2 years, or however long they keep them on the road if you rented it for that entire time. Might not be that bad a way to acquire one of them. Rob If you do the math though, it's a money loser. Shelby Mustang Email List ------------------------------ I would doubt that they will sell any car directly to a person. From what I have heard, that Ford dealers having first shot after a price level is set at auction. Then the remaining cars will be auctioned. This will be done in stages, as the cars do not hit the criteria for sale at the same time. I have a request for one with someone I know and a large dealer I know has a request in for me for one of the new GT-H Hertz car. Still I think it will be a long shot to get one. It would be cool to have three of the four years that Shelby and Hertz worked together, probably collect all four at some point. This was the information that I was given and I can not verify that it is 100% accurate or that it will not change. Good luck in getting the car.
