Hello all. I am a newbie to this site. I have a '68 GT500 that I bought as a basket case a few years ago. I'm slowly (emphasis on slowly) repairing the body damage and rust. The original 428 is trashed due to a cracked block so I'm putting a 427 MR in it. I hope to finish it over the next couple of years. I may need to seek out some help from you guys as I bought it already apart and while I'm quite knowledgeable as to how a Mustang goes together, the unique Shelby items I expect will be a bit of a challenge.

Welcome to Shelby Forums. Glad you found us. Where/how did you find your GT500?

I recall a KR convertible in Glade Springs, near Abingdon, VA, some years back that was in kind of bad shape. I heard that someone finally got it. That's probably the one you're talking about. My GT500 is an early build. The Shelby portion of the S/N is 0049. As best I can tell, the car was originally sold in New York then made its way to Alabama where it was wrecked and went through a flood (everything in front of the firewall was replaced with sheet metal from a '67 Mustang). I got it off of a fellow near Atlanta who had bought it and accumulated most of the parts to fix the body back. It is well documented though with a copy of original invoice from Lois Eminiger and build sheet which was wrapped and taped around the steering column so it missed the flood. A '68 Mustang in this bad of shape I would have walked away from, but a Shelby......I couldn't stand to see it not be fixed and besides the price was something I could afford.

I remember that car as well but not the one I was talking about..The one I was talking about was in Elk Creek..for a while ..parked behind a cinder block wall with a tarp covering it holding in all the moisture.. Was sad to see it sit there knowing the first time I saw it was on the mountain in excellent condition with original paint !!! This one sat right in your back door so to speak!!! Its being restored by someone who can treat it right and not far from where it lived originally...Meadows of Dan!!
There are still cars out there unaccounted for waiting for that special someone!!!

I had forgotten about the one in Elk Creek. Heard about it but never saw it. Where is it now? I'd love to see it so that maybe I can better see how mine is supposed to go together. My big issue is all the brackets and mounts for the front fiberglass and headlights.

Can't disclose the location... other than what I mentioned..if you know the area then that may be a clue to the whereabouts and ownership currently. I can say its in better hands now for complete restoration and have been told it will remain stored away in his collection of fine Fords!!! Coralsnake is a great resource for those 68 cars.. he has already commented...give him a shout when you can.. if you find any 65 early parts you can't use give me a shout..still looking for a pair of magnesium TTO's ..the real ones ..not repos

Okay, I know who you are talking about. It is in great hands.
All right Coralsnake, I understand that you are an authority on the 68's. Once I finish roughing in all of the body work, I may contact you for some help on the front of the car.
    Thanks guys.
