I was thinking of trailoring my car down to the Barrett Jackson auction this January. I am too late to enter my car in the auction, but was thinking of advertising my car on possibly a main road that leads to BJ. I personally have never been there and was curious if adverstiing outside of Barrett Jackson is even feasible? My goal is to trade up for another Shelby and not sell my car, but was wondering if anyone has gone there and if they have, where they recommend an area of parking my car that would not be part of their property. I wouldn't mind reading a book and talking cars to others that might be doing the same thing as I.

My best friend currently resides in Scottsdale and housing my car in Scottsdale while on vacation will not be a problem at all for me or my car.

    Opinions would be greatly appreciated

i'm taking a 68 chevelle ss vert there this year -- it's crossing the block on friday night -- i have also never been there -- there are so many cars at the auction that my first instinct tells me that it's a bad idea to take your car there and hang around looking for a buyer -- barrett jackson has a few auctions through out the year -- palm beach still has spots -- there are also good auctions else where -- vegas has one the weekend of thanksgiving -- you can pay 250 dollars to have a reserve auction -- trailer it to vegas and protect it for 250 -- just a thought -- john

If you have seen any of the special TV shows on the Barrett-Jackson auctions or read the B-J Experience magazines, you will know that the BJ team takes a very dim view of what you are planning. A lot of money and promotion is tied up in the auction, so they do not like outsiders trying get in on the action. All the parking areas miles around the auction are leased by B-J for spectators only. Cars with for sale signs are towed away as are ones on the side roads thanks to their arrangement with the local gendarmes.

Best to wait for another auction and get listed or sell your car by the usual non-auction means. Just a friendly tip.

Well, you can either be enthusiastic about ownership, with all the pride that comes with it, or, you can go ahead and be enthusiastic about making money. Your choice, but I didn't think this forum was about the latter.....

    Neelfryer/66Gt, thanks for your opinion.

66Gt, you have some great points that I didn't know. Makes sense the more I think about it. I was really hoping to see some other Shelby's that might be for sale or possibly a trade that wouldn't be part of this huge auction. Again, knowing that I have never been there, I was looking for suggestions like yours by going through this forum. Thanks!

Neelfryer, good luck with your car. You will do just fine. I am thinking of going to the auction, but parking my car in my garage based on 66GT's helpful hints.

Roddster, not sure what body of my original email mentions selling my car? According to my initial question listed on the Open Community Forum, my goal is to upgrade to another Shelby. I am not looking for cash. Even if I were to sell my car at an auction, I would buy another Shelby in return. I will continue to have a Shelby whether its the one I have now in my garage or potentially upgrading to a different Shelby. Besides my daily driver, I only have one other car to my name; my 68' shelby. I would think that if I wanted to sell my car I would have entered my car months ago to either Barrett Jackson, Russo and Steele or even the classifieds on this Shelby Forum. I am only looking for opinions on the reasons to either take my car down or not based on the amount of high end Shelby's that will be in Scottsdale at that time. I couldn't think of a better way than going through the Shelby Forum!

What Shelby do you consider an "upgrade" from your 68 GT500? There is no right or wrong answer, just opinions.

    Great question 67GT500

I currently have a 1968 Raven Black GT500. My car is 1/43 Raven Black automatics made. My car is highly documented with 3 matching build sheets. With that said I would have interest trading up for a 1968 Shelby GT500KR convertible, 1968 GT500 convertible or possibly a raven black KR or 1967 Raven Black GT500.
