At this moment in time, the automakers from Detroit are going hat in hand to Washington for multi-billion dollar bailouts. I could be wrong, but I worry that the Dems might make them stop making performance cars (such as the gas guzzling Hemi Challenger and various hi po Mustangs) as a sign they are truly serious about upping the mpg average of the fleet.

With a Dem pres and dem congress they can push through what they want and I'm worried that fast cars, i.e. anything that's fun to drive, will be sacrificed first to show that the automakers are willing to change their tune in exchange for a bailout.

On the bright side, for collectors who already have fast cars, if Detroit goes strictly puddlejumper, fast cars from the Sixties will soar in value as the Last of the Best (Best of the Last?). But then these things are cyclical and automakers might soon find a way to make the fast cars come back again. I recently drove a Chrysler 300 with 4-6-8 and got over 30 mpg and still had enough horses in hand to have fun driving...maybe this feature could be on all V8 cars...
