Hi Guys I have a question. Did 65/66 Shelby Mustangs have torque boxes in the front? I just know the rear ones, but nerver heard of torque boxes in the front?? Can you help? Do you have pictures from under the car so i could see them? Thank you very much. And thank you for helping. Bye Jerry from old cold germany
While I suffer from CRS ever more often, here's my memory -- looking at exploded chassis diagrams would likely correct me here ... Front torque boxes were originally used on only convertible chasses in 65-6. By '67, a torque box was added to the driver's side of hardtops, and by the end of the year, torque boxes were standard on all Mustang models-- both sides. The easiest visual description I can provide is thus: Look behind the front tire toward the driver's toe board. In the earlier models you see a single sheet of metal, probably 18 gage or so, setting at the angle of, well... the toe board. The torque boxes added a secondary triangular, box structure of 14(?) gage metal that extended straight down as the vertical plane of the firewall, and running horizontally back about a foot. Widthwise, they ran from the front frame horn out to the outer rocker structure.
