By "bump", I assume you're still having the problem and bumping the thread to the top of the list?

As far as the previous advice for checking the shifter, I would go about it as follows (keep in mind my advice is based on my knowledge of a Hurst shifter mounted on a toploader):
    1) remove the shift rod for 1st-2nd shift tab.
    2) place the shifter in nuetral.
    3) work the transmission tab for 1st-2nd back and forth to find the middle (the position it should be in for nuetral).
    4) check that the shift rod aligns perfectly with the tab when they are both in nuetral. If they do not align, screw the rod in or out of the shifter base to adjust the length until they align.
    5) re-attach the rod to the tab.

    Repeat for 3-4 tab/rod combo.

If my advice does not apply for a B-W with a ford shifter, then I apologize. If you're unsure of what you have, you may actually have the toploader. It's a better transmission and it's my understanding that quite a few found their way into the early Shelby's back in the 70's.

If there is pressure on the 1-2 shift tab on a toploader when the car's in nuetral, you can experience difficulties getting into 3rd or 4th.

By the way, if you DO have a toploader, order new shift rod retaining clips from Hurst. When the older ones get soft, they start popping off and then you're stuck in whatever gear the car was in when it fell off.

Carb problems... shifting problems... sounds like a real pain... you should just sell it to me ;) I was born and raised in 93921. I lived in 93940 for a while too. Still have a lot of friends up there. I could come up this weekend and pick it up

    Good luck. Hope this helps.

If you haven't had the shifter rebuilt yet and determine it's the problem I highly recommend Bill Heeley.
