If they are still have cooling problems as described earlier than make sure it can use multi fuels like E85. It's about .30 to .50 cents a gallon cheaper than regular gasoline & more gas stations are starting to carry it. check out the E85fuel.com website for more info. This is a breif overview from their website. I know my friend runs 100% ethanol in his sprint car & he says it runs cooler & has more power? anyone else heard about this? E85 is the term for motor fuel blends of 85 % ethanol & 15 % gasoline. E85 is an alternative fuel as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy. Besides its superior performance characteristics, ethanol burns cleaner than gasoline; it is a completely renewable, domestic, environmentally friendly fuel that enhances the nation's economy and energy independence & has a 105 Octane rating. Today, the U. S. imports more than half of its oil, and overall consumption continues to increase. By supporting ethanol production and use, U.S. drivers can help reverse that trend. 85% ethanol can reduce pollution. Government tests have shown that E85 vehicles reduce harmful hydrocarbon and benzene emissions when compared to vehicles running on gasoline. E85 can also reduce carbon dioxide (CO2), a harmful greenhouse gas and a major contributor to global warming. Although CO2 is released during ethanol production and combustion, it is recaptured as a nutrient to the crops that are used in its production. Unlike fossil fuel combustion, which unlocks carbon that has been stored for millions of years, use of ethanol results in low increases to the carbon cycle. Ethanol also degrades quickly in water and, therefore, poses much less risk to the environment than an oil or gasoline spill.
That is a good idea on making it E85 compatible. Isn't the government still offering tax credits for people that purchase flexible fuel and hybrid cars? robin
All well & good, but if this country uses 9 million barrels a day, as it stands now, I don't think the makers of ethanol have the refineries to deliver 1 per cent of that #. Just my 2 cents worth.--S.
Please keep to your liberal blogs. E-85 won't work well in a high compression engine. Also, "global warming" is still a junk science therory. And finally, did your sprint car friend mention "alcohol?" Because it takes twice as much volume of alcohol to produce about the same power as gasoline. Meaning, you burn twice as much.
This sounds great but can all cars run on it? How do we find out? Unfortunatley the only place right now in California is in San Diego.
I'm no liberal! I try to make suggestions to help the cause of trying to keep this car the way it was presented in N.Y.show. What suggestion have you made or have? Here's a few questions for you. Why do NHRA & IHRA both have Dragsters that use 100% Alcohol? Couldn't they just use street gas & carry 1/2 as much fuel to have 1/2 as much weight with the same power generated then? Do you watch the IRL Indy cars? Indy Cars currently use methanol, a form of wood grain alcohol, as their fuel of choice. Methanol is used instead of gasoline mainly because of safety; it has a higher flash point (doesn't ignite as easily). Methanol has been the fuel of choice in cars running in the Indianapolis 500 since 1965. There's little horsepower difference today between gasoline and methanol. In 2006 the Indy cars will be running 100% ethanol & will be using it exclusively as their main fuel while running 220+ mph. Still think they can't make changes to fuel requirements for this car? Theirs are options out their, we just need to help remind them to expolre other alternatives.
