Was the Mach I street legal and did it survive to today like the ThunderbirdItalien?

Hard to find pictures of on the net of the Mach I concept car though I found it on on Google but not Yahoo. Here's a description:
    -candy apple red prototype
-Euro headlights (though also displayed with American legal headlights)
-racing gas cap in roof on driver's side (more Indy style filler cap than Cobra 427)
-Firestone 500 Indy racing tires on mags (doubt Shelby would have allowed those tires if he was associated with it as he was a Goodyear dealer)
    -chopped top
-racing interior (as far as bucket seats)
I thought if it was based on a legal street car, it might have escaped the crusher.
Tho when Ford sold about 50 prototypes at a charity auction a few years back it wasn't listed (those were mostly Ghia cars, and a good many were just non running body shells).I think the reason the Thunderbird survived is that it was a "custom car" and not a factory show car, in that gray area between. Restored, it was put in a Barrett-Jackson auction.

Here's the picture I found so far of the Mach I show car http://media.caranddriver.com/image...detroit-auto-show-photo-381615-s-1280x782.jpg
