Back in the good ol days, you used to be able to order your Mustang in any color you wanted if you were will to pay the price. I have a Mustang Magazine in my collection that has a 1973 Mustang that was special ordered to be painted Chevy Orange. Yes, Chevy Orange, and the owner has the factory papers to prove it. I think Ford should bring that option back. I am sure that many people would pay $2,000.00 to $3,000.00 (maybe more) to have their new Mustang painted in their favorite color. I personally would really like a new Mustang painted the new Dodge Sub Lime Metallic, but that’s just me. What color would you go for if you could choose it?
YESSS, i was waiting for this topic! My 68 gt350 is lime gold and I often asked myself in what color I would have ordered the car when new. For 1967 I prefer nightmist blue, for 1968 candyapple red, brittany blue or highland green. What is funny about the lime gold color is the fact, that every and all people tell me that it is a beautiful color. It's just me having a problem with it. I just don't have the nerve to paint a shelby in a color other than the original one. Next year I will restore my shelby and also repaint it. Until then I must decide on the color. Maybe, just maybe I will paint it highland green.
I'm not sure what color I would choose but I would definitely pay a reasonable price for the option. $2,000.00 to $3,000.00 sounds fair. I think it would be great to choose a custom color.
I used to have a Torino Cobra that was calypso coral. I think that color would look good on a new Mustang. I can't believe Ford doesn't offer a dark green for these cars. I guess they are saving it for a new Bullit edition.
I had the same problem when I restored my '67 GT500. I couldn't hardly get myself to go with lime, but I couldn't go non-original either. Lime won out, and it was a terrific decision in hindsight. With really nice paint, it is a great color. With fair paint, it is terrible.
I agree with you all. I wasn't a lime gold fan either until I puchased #3000. The car is lime gold and ive really really come to love the color. Like you said the color looks great when painted with a quality paint. The paint technology has come a long way. Lime Gold was used on several of the original 67 Shely ads. Its a true 60'e era color. To be honest, look at my shelby pics in its current stage, right now its multi color....haha..it could be baby vomit color and it wouldnt bother me a bit...ITS A SHELBY BABY and shes all mine!!..WOOHOOO: As far as im concerned, what color DOESNT look good on the best car ever made?...the answer: NONE.
OK.... we are getting off track...... What color would you order a NEW Mustang in if Ford offered the "Special Order Paint" option like they did in the early years? But Yes, I like the Lime Gold as well. And it was a very popular color in 67-68.
