I'm way out here in the South Pacific on vacation and I see a '66 GT350 clone, but since the guy built it he's been out of touch with what prices are. I told him a real '65 GT350, documented to be a Shelby school car, recently sold for $500,000 plus what what's '66 clone worth?
I figure since a bare bones 2 plus 2 non rusty Mustang is $8000 that's a good starting place, but didn't ask if his came with a 289 Hipo in the first place. I suppose that would make a differance.
It's white with blue stripes and the fiberglass front valance panel.

That's a tough question since clones can range from crap all the way up to barely distinguishable from legit. There's definitely a bell curve for clones, though. Probably 75% fall within the middle where they are nice cars that have the look of a Shelby, but are not really "clones"... more like "influenced by...". Nice paint, crate motor, some Lemans stripes and side stripes. Sometimes rear windows or brake scoops, or both, but usually the mechanical and interior are a far cry from the original. I'd say average SELLING (not asking) price for those is in the high 20's to low 30's.

The only $8000 2+2's I've seen lately have been project cars. That may have been what you were referring to, though, when you said it would be a good starting point for a clone. Unless you're fortunate enough to have a garage full of parts and you're a talented paint and body man, you'd be hard pressed to build a clone for less than you can buy one. But the flipside would be that you probably would be even more hard pressed to find one that is exactly the way you'd want it.

Now, if you're talking very true to the original clones, those are few and far between, which makes it even harder to pin down a price. I'd guess high 30's to mid 40's (ranging from private party to dealer).

Are you thinking about picking it up, or just trying to give this guy an idea of what his car's worth?

Well for starters Shelby did not build a G.T. 350 coupe so it can't be a Clone. He did how ever build Trans Am Coupes but they did not have G.T. 350 on the Rockers. Second, if all it has is just the Blue Stripes and a Fiberglass front Valance, then it is just a Coupe with Blue Stripes and a Shelby style Front Valance. Very nice Mustang Coupes range in price from $5,000.00 to about $10,000.00, more if it is a GT or K Code. Sorry if this is not what you want to hear but it seems like everyone who owns a Mustang with Lemans Stripes is calling it a Clone.

Wow... I didn't even notice the word "coupe" in the title... I just read the text of the post.

I retract everything I said. I was referring to 2+2's.

I gotta agree with Crzy4Shlbz. It all depends on how well it's done. I see those really poorly done clones that still have all the Mustang emblems and the "289" vee on the fender. And these dreamers want plenty, and don't get it. Start at about $10,000 because you have to correct so much.
I've also seen a really well done 66 coupe, built like a real 66 Shelby Trans Am car, R model valve covers and all. He wanted $42,000 for it. I imagine he might have come close to getting it
