Anyone know of the best brand of crinkle finish paint for the 428CJ value to ensure the judges approve?

Hi to answer an age old question..but first to set things straight-It is wrinkle paint, and it is now available as a powder coat finish,as well as a conventional (sort of paint). The best consistient results I've had is with the spray cans available in any Harley Davidson shop. The secret is how they are heated afterwards to get them to wrinkle. This is the cheapest and will look like they should...Several people say that power coating is the best, and will be very durable...but it will cost you quite a bit more..better check in with a few judges to see if it is acceptable.Keep us posted.

If they were my valve covers I would take PD's suggestions. I think you will have some problems with proper finish on the fins if powder coated. Bob

I used the VHT product. The thicker you put it on, the more pronounced the wrinkling. Try to be consistent from side to side.

Here in Houston it took 3 days to dry.

I did not mask off any of it - sprayed the entire cover. Then I used a slightly dull chisel to get most of the paint off the fins. Then a small block of wood with 100 grit sandpaper to clean off the rest of the paint and give it the brushed look. Doing the "Powered by Ford" letters is the hardest.

    Came out great, though.

    Great feedback, thanks.

The shop owner has decided to outsource the job, i have relayed the group feedback, I have high hopes for success.
