I'm a looking for a really good restoration shop that has the passion to complete my car (current show driver) to a concourse trailer level. My primary concern is accuracy (including excellent workmanship), then cost. I only want to restore this car once, so I would like something that will last and hold up after being completed with minimum maintenance. Not looking to drive the Shelby after completion, except pass the "shake down" test to make sure it's all back together (giant puzzle). Not saying that cost is not a concern, just wanting the better shop that may specialize in these cars and won't rob you blind (or take my good original parts and substitute repo). I'm located in the midwest (Central Indiana) and favoring Paul's Automotive in Cincinnati. Does anyone have experiences in these areas??? I believe that trust is a major part of the restoration. Looking to do a rotisserie nut & bolt resto on mostly original 1968 GT500 fastback. Thanks and God Bless; Tom p.s. Spring Fling is a coming (5/21/05) - Are you going?? What ya bringing??
I would have recommended Martin Euler in Midland, Michigan .... but he retired from Shelby restorations about a year ago. Among the Shelbys Martin restored was the Green Hornet. Otherwise, I would suggest Jeff James in St. Charles, Michigan. Jeff is completing a GT500KR convertible at the moment. Next in que for Jeff is my GT500 convertible. Rick
I would recommend Classic Mustang of Houston. Phone number is 281-587-0449. They just finished the restoration on my 68 GT350 and I am very pleased with the outcome of both the quality of workmanship and cost. They are currently just finishing up a Boss 302 and starting on a 69 GT500. These guy’s live and breath mustangs.
I would at least talk to Tony Conover of Conover's Cobra Ranch in Hanover PA. They are honest people that do good work; they have done a lot of work for Fran Kress and he can afford to go anywhere. Call 717-637-6964. I am going to the Indiana spring fling, driving white 66 350. Tim
Thanks for the info. I'll be scouting fresh cars at the Indiana SAAC Spring Fling to see who's done them?? Tom
Mark Stacey in Murfreesboro, TN does excellent work. He does some concours judging also. Good luck, John
