Why did Ford put a 25 lb. damper on the 2007 Shelby GT500?

    I know you can upgrade it to the lighter 2008+ damper and is a must especially if you are doing horsepower modifications to your engine.

    But they must have put that on the snout of the engine for a specific reason as the front was already heavy enough!

    Or to control crankshaft vibration under load?

    It would seem to me horsepower upgrades or not their would also be consequences for removing the heavy damper or why put it there in the first place?
