I saw the Cobra Concept roadster (liked the dashboard best) and GR-1 Concept coupe ( great in polished alloy body) but at the last Pebble Beach they didn't show any two seater Ford concept so I am wondering what the word is in Cobraland? Is it dead? Can't Ford just buy the leftover Series 1 chassis and put in a Ford and rebody it with one of these delectable bodies? Or is there no fun two seaters until Ford can unload Jaguar? Like to know if anyone has heard anything? AS a Ford fan, I am worried that Chrysler will sell that Firepower body on the Viper chassis and continue the Viper as well and have two two seaters to sell while Ford will have none.
First the Cobra Concept car was just that. A concept exercise only. The GR-1 Coupe concept was studied as a possible replacement for the out of production, Ford GT. It seems that idea has gone away just like SVT has. Nobody in their right mind would attempt to build a car on a Series 1 chassis. Too many problems. Besides, the recent two-seat Thunderbird disaster for Ford assures that they are not interested on shooting themselves in the foot again. Also, there is no one in Ford's high executive circle that is performance orientated. In fact if one Ford executive gets her way, forget about anymore performance cars from Ford. So, maybe, just maybe you will have to choose an alternative car make in the future to get that two seater you want. shlby66
